Do not leave town without a dental restoration from your local cosmetic dentist. Having a weak or damaged tooth can be an extremely painful experience. If you have a damaged tooth, it is important to visit our dentist office right away and plan for how to restore it before you leave town. Since the regular placement of a crown usually requires at least two dentist visits and up to a three-week wait for a dental lab to create the crowns, we offer more than one way to restore your tooth.

We have a solution for you that allows you to plan ahead. However, if you are leaving town quickly, you can also visit us for dental bonding.

A Cosmetic Dentist Can Provide You with Durable Restorations Right Away

If you are leaving town and visit us for a same-day restoration (dental bonding), we can help you enjoy the convenience of getting a same-day restoration. We can gently prepare your tooth and place tooth-colored bonding material in one appointment. Next, we will shape the bonding material in place and harden it. The result is a beautiful looking restoration.

While dental bonding is not as durable as a dental crown, it can be incredibly effective for repairing small cracks and chips. Plus, dental bonding is a non-invasive solution with less of a need for anesthesia, making the process well-suited for younger children. Even if you decide to restore your tooth with a different option in the future, dental bonding can give you the ability to leave for vacation and enjoy your trip without experiencing dental pain.

You May Need Dental Crowns

While dental bonding is ideal for many situations, some dental damage demands a more comprehensive solution that needs more than one visit. For this, it is wise to plan ahead to ensure that we place your crowns prior to leaving town. Dental crowns are the ideal restoration when your tooth is missing a lot of enamel or you have a severe crack or chip. A dental crown covers a damaged tooth.

In order to prepare the tooth for the crown, we will drill down on the tooth to remove any decay or damage, and shape it so it is a perfect fit for the crown we are going to place. The crowns, which typically consist of ceramic, look and feel exactly like your regular teeth. Thus, when you smile at those happy vacation pictures, there is no way for anybody to tell that the dental crown is not one of your natural teeth.

The dental crown will also feel comfortable and allow you to eat the foods you enjoy. Proper dental hygiene will also suffice for taking care of the dental crown.

Visit us for Your Dental Restorations

We can provide you with beautiful and durable dental restorations before you leave for your next vacation. Regardless of which solution you require, you can be confident that your teeth will look natural and beautiful once we are done restoring them.

It can lead to pain in your jawbone and the muscles that control your jaw. The temporomandibular joint serves as a pair of sliding hinges that connect your jaw to your skull on both sides. Problems with either lead to difficulty moving your jaw, thus compromising any activity that requires the use of your jawbone or jaw muscles.

Common symptoms of TMJ disorder include:

Tenderness/pain in the jaw

Pain from either temporomandibular joints or both

Pain in your ear

Aching facial muscles

Difficulty opening or closing your mouth

Fortunately, your dentist has many options to help you alleviate these symptoms. These treatments are broken down into three sections: medication, therapy, and surgery.

TMJ Treatments

1. Medications

We can combine medications with therapeutic or surgical treatments. These medicines help to reduce the pain that comes with TMJ disorders.
A. Anti-inflammatory and pain relievers
When OTC medication is not enough to help manage the pain that comes with TMJ, your dentist will prescribe something stronger. Non-steroid, anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen are a common aid to temporarily relieving some pain.
B. Tricyclic antidepressants
Medications that were common for combating depression can now act as pain relievers for TMJ patients. It is important to speak with a professional in order to determine which is right for you.
C. Muscle relaxants
Medications like these often take weeks to kick in, but they are effectively used to help temporomandibular joint disorder patients deal with pain.

2. Therapeutic treatments

There are treatment options available to those dealing with TMJ issues that do not require the use of drugs. These include:
A. Mouth guards and splints
People with temporomandibular joint pain often report reduced pain when wearing a soft, firm device like a mouth guard over their teeth.
B. Physical therapy
Extreme temperatures and ultrasound waves can be used to address TMJ. This external simulation is typically coupled with exercises that strengthen and stretch the jaw muscles.
C. Counseling
Patients can reduce the discomfort associated with the temporomandibular joint disorder by understanding the behaviors and factors that aggravate your condition. Habits, like grinding your teeth or leaning on your chin, will only make your condition worse. The education will help you avoid things that make your condition worse.

3. Surgical and other treatments

When your dentist has exhausted other options, surgical solutions are next on the list. Here are the most commonly recommended treatments:
A. Arthrocentesis
This is a relatively straightforward process that involves the insertion of small needles into your jaw joints to remove debris and other by-products that are causing the inflammation.
B. Injections
Your dentist might recommend corticosteroid injections to deal with your TMJ. Botox injections can also occasionally help alleviate jaw bone pain.
C. TMJ arthroscopy
This can be as effective as open-joint surgery when it comes to treating TMJ disorders. During this procedure, we place a thin tube into your jaw joints and use miniature surgical tools for surgery. This procedure is less intrusive than open-joint surgery, but it does come with some limitations.
D. Open-joint surgery
Open-joint surgery is a last resort option for when all other methods fail. While it will allow a dentist to deal with some of the issues that TMJ presents, there are also risks with surgery.
It is our goal to help you to maintain beautiful and healthy teeth for a lifetime. While this starts with preventative care like teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments and oral cancer screenings, it also includes addressing any aesthetic issues that you have with your smile. This is because we understand that the more you like the appearance of your teeth, the more likely you are to practice good oral hygiene and show off your smile. With that in mind, we offer many solutions, including dental veneers and teeth whitening that can be used to improve your appearance.

Improve Your Smile

We typically recommend starting with a teeth whitening procedure since it is the easiest way to brighten the teeth. People associate yellow and stained teeth with age and poor health. When an individual whitens his or her teeth, the individual is turning back the clock and will appear much younger. A professional whitening solution works far better than what people can buy in the store.
The solution we offer penetrates the enamel to begin the process of oxidization where the molecules inside of the teeth reflect less light and appear colorless. As the teeth reflect less light, the teeth will become brilliantly white. Not only does our solution produce a more dramatic effect but it is also safe for the teeth and the individual should not experience any sensitivity afterward. As a cosmetic dentist, we can also make teeth appear white by placing dental veneers on top of them. A veneer is a thin shell that consists of porcelain or ceramic. We will customize the veneer to match the surrounding teeth. Thus, if a patient is only placing one or two veneers, then the patient may want to whiten the surrounding teeth first.
We use veneers for a variety of reasons beyond covering stains. The reasons include closing gaps between teeth and making them appear straighter. While a veneer will not change the actual position of a tooth since it is bonded to the surface of it, we can create the appearance of straight teeth. This makes dental veneers a much faster solution than orthodontics when one has gaps or slightly crooked teeth. We can also use this solution if the teeth are misshapen or damaged, making them an incredibly versatile treatment.

Call us today

In our cosmetic dentist office, we use teeth whitening and dental veneers on a regular basis to transform smiles; but that is not all that we do. We also perform natural-looking restorations when teeth become cracked or chipped. This way, you can regain the full functionality of your smile without experiencing any unnecessary discomfort.
Since we do this in a way that blends in with your surrounding teeth, no one will be able to tell that you ever had a restoration in the first place. This is often done using dental crowns, dental veneers, or dental bonding.
No matter what preventative measures one takes, there is always the chance of an accident damaging the teeth. In other cases, an infection can suddenly cause incredible pain in certain teeth and require emergency treatment. If someone falls and chips a tooth, it is crucial to seek professional treatment right away.

<h2 style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.2em;">
Available when you need emergency treatment

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
Since most people cannot plan for dental emergencies, the only time that an emergency dentist is not needed is for routine appointments and teeth cleanings. While we perform those and recommend scheduling them twice a year, we know how critical it is to be available for patients when they need help.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
Thus, we always leave room in the schedule to help patients when they call and recommend you do so at the first sign of an emergency. In fact, adding our phone number to your phone contacts is a good idea since you never know where you will be when the emergency occurs.

<h2 style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.2em;">
Types of emergencies

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
Very often, dental emergencies are the type of things that no one can ever expect to happen. For example, we receive calls from parents who have rushed to the school after a child breaks a tooth on the playground. We help people that had a tooth knocked out while on a ski trip, taken care of patients whose crowns suddenly fell out in the middle of a birthday dinner, made time for patients who woke up with a toothache and much more.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
These are just a few of the examples of how we have helped patients over the years but it all comes down to availability. We are here when patients need us so that regardless of what the emergency is or when it happens, they can get the help they need as quickly as possible.

<h2 style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.2em;">
What is a true dental emergency?

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
A lot of times people are afraid to call in an emergency because they are not sure if they are overreacting. The best thing to do is simply call our office, explain the situation and at that time, we can assess whether it is a true emergency and requires immediate care or if it would be okay to schedule an appointment in the next week.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
In most cases, we have found that if patients are calling because they think it is an emergency, it actually is one. Some signs that there is an emergency requiring urgent help are:

<ul style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px 40px;">

Bleeding from the mouth that is persistent and does not stop after biting down on gauze

Dental pain that makes it too difficult to eat

Teeth being cracked or chipped

Teeth getting knocked out

Physical damage to the structure of the face or mouth

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
In these situations, visiting the emergency room at a local hospital in Chicago will not do a lot of good. They provide incredible care but are trained to treat the body, not the mouth, teeth or gums. As such, they can perform triage and prescribe pain medication but will ultimately refer patients to a dentist.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
In our opinion, it is far better to visit an emergency dentist in the first place because that means receiving treatment faster and speeding up the recovery process. If you are suffering from a dental emergency, do not delay in calling Mitchell Dental Spa at (312) 948-8807. Let us know what is happening so that we can provide the urgent treatment you need to recover.

We complete dental fillings every single day at Mitchell Dental Spa. They are the single most used procedure, with everyone from children to grandparents needing to get cavities repaired at some point. When you come in for dental fillings we believe that you should leave with one and an assurance that the tooth will not easily experience decay again.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
To accomplish this task, we will carefully remove all the decay and then work to remove any of the enamel that the decay may damage. Finally, we will fill the hole that has been created, also known as the cavity.

<h2 style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.2em;">
When are dental fillings needed?

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
Many of our patients, except our young ones, know that decay is due to bacteria in the mouth which forms a thin film of plaque over the teeth. When one introduces sugary or starchy foods to the teeth, this bacteria secrets acid. The acid eats at the tooth until cavity forms. What most people do not realize is that the teeth actually fight against decay.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
In fact, the teeth are able to make minor repairs to themselves using calcium and phosphate in the saliva, water, and fluoride. It is only when the tooth cannot access any of these essential minerals, after multiple assaults by the acids on the enamel, that the bacteria is able to create a cavity and a need for dental fillings.

<h3 style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.2em;">
Dental filling technology

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
When it comes to dental fillings, we are always interested in improvements in technology that will make them better for patients. If you remember, it was not that long ago that most fillings were made of metal which made it obvious which teeth previously had cavities. We now offer white dental fillings that allow us to inexpensively repair more prominent teeth while also giving the patient the clean white look that he or she wants.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
The science behind dentistry continues to evolve. In 2012, the University of Maryland Dental School came up with a new cavity filling system that fills the cavity, but also to kill any residual bacteria that may survive the cleaning. The treatment may also help the tooth regrow some of the lost tissue in the fight against the bacteria. The use of silver nanoparticles, in addition to ammonia, makes the primer, the bonding agent, and the filling itself help to kill off any bacteria.

<div style="color: #333333; font-family: sans-serif, Arial, Verdana, "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px;">
While this particular method remains in clinical trials, it is an example of the kind of innovation being tested in laboratories across the country with the goal of making dental work less necessary. If we are able to help the natural order of enamel in re-growing and regenerating itself, combine that with a system that kills all bacteria, and provide you with the means to avoid cavities in the future, it will be a huge accomplishment for the dental world. We provide teeth whitening that can be used to improve the appearance of your smile. This is a simple procedure that can make a dramatic impact on how you look because people associate bright teeth with youth and good health. Both men and women have reported that a beautiful smile is one of the most attractive qualities anyone can have. White teeth are an important aspect of any beautiful smile, so having this treatment can also have a positive impact on your social interactions.
Teeth whitening continues to grow in popularity and there are numerous products on the market that can help. Many are sold in the drugstore and on television, making it difficult for most people to know which product to use. Before heading to the store, there are a few things about whitening teeth that people need to know. First and foremost being that store-bought products will hardly make a difference to the shade of the teeth.

Professional teeth whitening is more effective than whitening teeth with a store-bought solution. Here is why:

The solution itself
Whether whitening teeth at the dentist or at home, one must apply a whitening solution to the teeth. These solutions contain some type of peroxide. The peroxide and the overall chemical makeup of the solution change from product to product. Most of what is sold in the store will only remove the surface stains on teeth.
Our solution, however, will penetrate the enamel and start the process of oxidization. This is where the molecules inside of the teeth begin to reflect less light and appear colorless. As a result, the smile will be bright, white, and beautiful.
The process
When whitening the teeth at our dentist office, we will ensure the patient has complete and total comfort. If the patient whitens teeth at home, you can use whitening strips, which may or may not slip out of place. The other option is whitening trays. When you have trays made by a dentist, they will fit securely and the process will be comfortable.
When a patient buys the whitening solution from the store, he or she will be purchasing trays that are a general size to fit everyone. This size increases the likelihood that the trays will slip out of place and the solution will leak into the mouth. This can be entirely unpleasant and is avoidable by visiting the dentist.
Safety
When you visit us for a teeth whitening, we will examine your teeth and gums to ensure that you do not have any small cracks, chips, cavities, or infections. If you do, we will want to treat them first so you do not experience any discomfort or sensitivity when the whitening solution is placed on your teeth.
When you whiten your teeth yourself, this is not an option. Also, some people overuse the solution and erode their enamel in the process. This can lead to long-term sensitivity, which is also avoidable with help from our dentist office.
Teeth whitening is one of those conveniences that have become an integral part of how people improve their appearance today. It was not always so convenient or so easy to get your teeth whitening done. Today, you have the choice of going to see us and having your teeth whitening done by us in the office, or buying a solution from the local pharmacy and doing it yourself. Regardless of what method you chose, it has never been easier or as inexpensive to get your teeth whitened.

An efficient solution

With the number of products that can discolor teeth, it is important to consider teeth whitening as a potential treatment option. Regular beverages such as coffee, tea, soda and wine, all stain teeth. Even with proper oral hygiene and brushing, people still experience teeth staining.
Fortunately, teeth whitening is an easy and efficient process with professional supervision. People who attempt to whiten teeth without professional supervision or services can actually cause more damage to their teeth and increase the chance for other health risks.
Did you know that teeth whitening is actually a chemical process? Most people who whiten their teeth have no idea how the process happens or that the peroxide solution used is designed to make the smallest of changes in your enamel's natural organic chemical makeup. It is important for you to be aware that when you are whitening your teeth you are not just dyeing the outside of the tooth with a whiter paint, rather you are actually causing the tooth itself, from the inside out, to look whiter with a chemical process known as oxidization.

A chemical process

The peroxide is quickly absorbed into the tooth enamel, where it works to release free radicals that make the tooth more colorless, and hence they appear to be whiter. Our solution is stronger and more effective than what you can purchase from the store so the results that you see will be far more dramatic.
The reason we point this out is that there are many over the counter whitening solutions available, and we would recommend two things if you are going to use one of them. First, we would advise that you consult with us before starting the process regardless of how you are going to be whitening your teeth. Very often, there are minor challenges with your teeth, like a small cavity, for example, that can be exasperated or irritated by the peroxide in the teeth whitening solution.
We can prevent you from feeling discomfort with a simple checkup, and by correcting these issues before they become a problem. Secondly, we recommend that you always follow professional advice as to how frequently you should whiten your teeth. Overly frequent use of teeth whitening products can lead to sensitivity, among other problems.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-83004262407941754362017-09-15T11:48:00.000-07:002017-11-22T11:49:05.420-08:00Visit the Dentist to Keep Teeth Healthy

By visiting the dentist you can stay in excellent oral health. Our office is modern and comfortable, however, we know that the dentist office probably not your ideal spot for relaxing, reading magazines, and catching up on all the celebrity gossip. In fact, most people would prefer to avoid ever having to visit the dentist, and sadly many people do avoid coming in until they have some kind of a dental emergency.
We will tell the patient that the only way to reduce the number of times he or she comes in with an emergency situation is to have a strategy for preventative oral care. This usually involves coming in to see us at least twice per year for a teeth cleaning that allows us to identify and treat any potential problems before they become serious. Coming in for a well-visit is far more enjoyable than having to come in with a severe toothache.

Dental Office Visits

As a dentist, we can clean an individual's teeth at least twice per year and determine if there are any dental health risks before they get worse. If we find any signs of dental health issues, we will eliminate the issue during the appointment or schedule another one to do so. When patients come in for a wellness checkup, we will also take X-rays to see if there are any issues below the gum line as well.
During these visits, we can also go over a patient's oral hygiene routine and bring up areas that the patient needs to focus on, which ultimately will improve oral health. The patient needs to make sure to follow these steps as these practices will reduce the potential for both toothaches and dental emergencies. For both are two of the main reasons why people come in to see us, outside of regularly-scheduled visits.

Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies happen quite frequently and can range from a kid knocking out a tooth during soccer practice to severe infection. There is really no way to predict accidents that cause a dental emergency. However, regular teeth cleanings and exams will ensure that a patient's teeth are strong and more likely to withstand the damage.
As a dentist, we provide preventative care to reduce the likelihood of a future emergency or at least minimize the damage in the event of an accident. If an individual does get in an accident and damages his or her teeth, however minor, we recommend calling our office right away so that we can then advise the individual on the course of action. We may be able to even suggest ways to reduce discomfort.

Toothaches

In a sense, toothaches do fall under the broad categorization of a dental emergency, and they are among the most frequent reasons why people seek out medical attention for their teeth. As a dentist , we always recommend contacting us as soon as a toothache develops, since there could be a number of underlying causes that could be triggering the pain. By examining it right away, we can identify the problem and treat it before the infection spreads further.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-43643756164553515622017-08-15T11:40:00.000-07:002017-11-22T11:40:47.916-08:00When to Visit a Sleep Apnea Dentist for an Oral Appliance

If you think you have sleep apnea, it may be time for you to visit a sleep apnea dentist for an oral appliance treatment. When you do not have enough adequate sleep, you may feel fatigued, weak, and agitated. The lack of sleep can also lead to a weaker immune system. We can help you to combat all of these negative aspects of sleep apnea at our Chicago office.

When should I visit a sleep apnea dentist?

People that go to bed every night at a reasonable hour, yet still wake up feeling exhausted, may have sleep apnea. When an individual has sleep apnea, different factors like jaw placement or extra throat tissue work together to block the airway. This blockage of the airway causes snoring and persistent waking, even when the individual does not realize it.
Sleep apnea is frustrating, but it is also dangerous to overall health. When someone has sleep apnea, he or she is more at risk for stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure, low blood oxygen levels, and obesity among many other negative diseases and disorders. Sleep apnea can even lead to an early death. People who think they may be experiencing some side effects of sleep apnea, need to visit a sleep apnea dentist to get fitted for an oral appliance that will help.

What is oral appliance therapy from a sleep apnea dentist?

The most commonly used treatment for sleep apnea is oral appliance therapy. These appliances are also commonly referred to as sleep apnea mouthpieces. The oral appliance looks like a mouthguard or retainer but fits more comfortably. The oral appliance works to help realign the jaw and teeth. It can also help hold the tongue in place, so it does not fall toward the back of the throat, creating an airway obstruction. As needed, our oral appliances can also keep soft tissues in the back of the throat from falling out of place during sleep. This treatment is far more convenient than wearing a loud and bulky CPAP machine.
The oral appliance therapy at our sleep apnea dentist office can reduce and eliminate the side effects of sleep apnea. It can also help to alleviate any discomfort associated with TMJ disorders. The mandibular advancement device oral appliance is mainly used to move the jaw forward as the individual sleeps. The tongue re-training device is another less commonly used option since it is a splint used to hold the tongue in place. These are the two most common types of oral appliances used in sleep apnea treatment. They both work to keep tissues and jaw position from obstructing the intake of oxygen.
Once you receive your oral appliance, and we ensure it fits properly at our sleep apnea dentist office, you will immediately notice a difference in how you feel when you wake up. Receiving enough oxygen at night allows you to sleep without waking and to wake up refreshed. It also leads to a healthier lifestyle overall.
Dentures, a common apparatus used as a replacement for missing teeth or any associated loss of functionality, come in different types selected based on the needs of an individual. You may require a complete or partial set of dentures or another replacement such as an implant or a bridge. As all of the options listed above have different associated costs, functions, and appearances, it is important to know which type of denture is appropriate for your needs before making a decision.

Options for replacing missing teeth

The costs associated with each type of tooth replacement vary on location and the specific type of denture one requires. Complete dentures replace an entire set of teeth, whether that be the entire lower jaw, upper jaw, or entire mouth. Partial dentures are best for replacing a few missing teeth and will not be the same as a full denture replacement. Also, partial dentures may be more affordable than a bridge. A dental bridge is one false tooth, or as many as three false teeth, that we anchor to neighboring natural teeth.
Lastly, a more permanent solution is an implant - a prosthetic tooth that we attach to the jaw with a metal anchor and place in the jaw bone. Higher quality dentures will cost more than lower quality ones and a complete set may cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000. However, dentures are still more affordable than dental implants or bridges.

Finding the right functionality

In addition to the cost of the replacement, it is important to consider the function of each type of denture. The ease of speaking, eating, and the comfort and fit of each type of denture may vary. Custom complete dentures may require some practice eating and speak as one becomes accustomed to the denture. It is important to start slowly with soft foods and increase in difficulty with time. Patients may find that speaking is also difficult at first, but with practice, this should become easier. The comfort of dentures will also increase over time.
It is important to visit us early and often when wearing new dentures so that they can be realigned to increase comfort. Additionally, it may be necessary to wear dentures overnight to identify which areas of the mouth are most irritated. Properly cleaning dentures is another important aspect of functionality, but remains the same for both partial and complete dentures. When not worn, they should be kept in a container of water or denture cleaner. Further, they should be cleaned daily with a soft toothbrush.
One of the major advantages of complete or partial dentures is their appearance. Dentures can often be visibly indistinguishable from natural teeth. As the majority of our patients are concerned with the appearance of tooth loss, restored confidence is often a large benefit of either partial or complete denture as they spare people from this situation. If this is you, make sure that you properly research different types of dentures before making a decision about which type would be best. We can help you with this decision process.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-54507821416144396882017-06-15T11:22:00.000-07:002017-11-22T11:23:37.735-08:00Signs That You Should Get a Dental Implant
We can provide you with a dental implant to restore your missing tooth. Dental implants are an excellent solution for tooth loss and a more modern option than dentures. While you can still use dentures, and they are a dependable solution, there are many inconveniences with wearing a removable prosthetic. These inconveniences lead many of our patients to search for a better and more convenient solution to tooth loss: dental implants.

Reasons you should consider a dental implant if…

1) You want a natural-looking smile
To make the crown (tooth portion of the implant), we first make an impression of the mouth, take measurements, and use a shade card so that the dental lab has all the information they need to create a natural-looking tooth that blends in with surrounding teeth. This level of precision is necessary for ensuring that the patient has a tooth replacement that looks so natural that it is not distinguishable from the other teeth. In fact, implants look so natural that it is difficult for our patients to tell the difference.
2) You are looking for a durable solution
A dental implant is the most durable way to replace a missing tooth. It is the only solution that replaces both the missing root and the tooth. In this procedure, we implant a titanium post under the gums and secure it to the jawbone. Over time, the metal and bone will fuse together through the process of osseointegration. The process of osseointegration is completely unique to implants and it causes the jawbone to provide the same level of support that it can to a natural tooth.
The implant provides the stimulation the jawbone needs just like a tooth does. Overall, this is a symbiotic relationship that is extremely beneficial for the body. As a result, the patient can engage in high impact activities (like running a marathon) and eat all of his or her favorite foods without restriction or express concern that the tooth may become loose or fall out.
3) You want a hassle-free smile
When one wears dentures, there are steps that patients must take on a daily basis. The patient may have to remove the dentures in order to clean with a gentle toothbrush and special paste, while also soaking them overnight. This has given dental prosthetics a bad reputation as being inconvenient. None of this is necessary, however, when the patient has to replace teeth with dental implants. An implant functions just like the natural tooth would.
All one needs to do is brush his or her teeth throughout the day and floss daily for the smile to remain healthy. There are no additional steps necessary, so the patient can quite literally go about the day without worrying about his or her teeth. The only thing we will advise is wearing a mouthguard if one plays sports because an implant can be knocked out just like a natural tooth can.
If you are seriously considering a teeth straightening procedure, then you need to know all of the different options that are available for you to achieve this process. When you visit our orthodontics office in Chicago, you are taking the first step toward a perfectly straight and beautiful smile. However, you may find that there are more options and choices to choose from than you expected. As such, it is important for you to come in for an initial consultation where we can go over the amount of straightening you need, what your goals are, and then explain all the different options that you have for completing the process.
At this initial consultation, we are also going to be addressing a realistic timeline and expectations. One of the things that patients need to remember upon visiting us for teeth straightening. No matter which treatment option the patient chooses, it takes years for teeth to grow in incorrectly. Thus, it is going to take some time for proper alignment.
Fortunately, we have some of the best options available and can provide patients with a comprehensive service in order to make sure the teeth straightening goes according to plan. Keeping that in mind, here are two of the more common options that we use for teeth straightening.

Common teeth straightening options

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional braces are the tried-and-true method for straightening teeth. The technology continues to improve, making traditional braces significantly smaller than the ones from 20 years ago. Traditional metal braces work by using metal brackets and wires. We secure the metal bracket in place and we then thread a thin metal wire through the back of the bracket using rubber bands.
These rubber bands slowly tighten the braces, ensuring that the patient's teeth move along a specific path in order to accomplish the straightening process in a specific amount of time. There are pros with having traditional braces for teeth straightening, including the fact that they are cost-effective.

Ceramic Braces

For patients who have a more discreet bend, there are ceramic braces. Ceramic braces are difficult for other to notice since they camouflage into the natural teeth. The way that we accomplish this camouflage is by placing ceramic brackets that match the shade of the patient's teeth. We also use ceramic to create fake teeth, so the braces are going to blend perfectly.
In addition, the wires also consist of a tooth-colored material that helps with the blending process. We do not recommend that patients use ceramic braces for children because of ceramic braces stain very easily. Patients cannot clean the stains unless they are willing to replace the entire ceramic piece. For adults who are interested in teeth straightening, ceramic braces may be a perfect option.
If your child does not like his or her smile, visit our Chicago dental office for orthodontics for children. We enjoy working with children and helping shape their smiles into something truly beautiful. Children can usually begin with early orthodontic treatments as young as 6 or 7 years of age. By the time they are older, they may be a good candidate for traditional braces and be able to straighten their teeth. We encourage you to bring your child in, regardless of what age the child is, so we can make recommendations and monitor the growth and development of their teeth.

4 Problems Solved by orthodontics for children

#1.Hyperdontia
If a child is born with one or more additional teeth than necessary, then the child struggles with hyperdontia. This condition is actually fairly common, with most cases only involving one additional tooth. Typically, the tooth requires removal during the orthodontic treatment.
#2.Overcrowding
A leading cause of crooked teeth, overcrowding is an issue when the palate is simply not large enough to hold all the teeth in a correct position. When this happens, the teeth are forced to turn sideways and grow in crooked. Genetics play a role in this, as do accidents, with teeth subsequently moving out of position. In any case, we can work to expand the palate using a palate expander or to create space between teeth by using metal spacers. Once there is enough room for their teeth, they can begin to be straightened using braces.
#3.Crooked teeth
If children have crooked teeth, this can negatively impact their appearance and put them at risk for additional health problems. Food can become trapped between crooked teeth, creating additional opportunities for cavities and infections — something children do not need any extra help with. By straightening their teeth, we can give the child a better smile and work to improve their oral health at the same time.
#4.Overbites, underbites, and crossbites
Jaw problems are incredibly common. An overbite, underbite, or crossbite can create oral health problems because it can put strain and pressure on your teeth, causing them to wear out too quickly or suffer from basic erosion. This is in addition to the negative impact a misaligned jaw can have on one's appearance. The good news is that we can correct it.

Why You Should Visit our Chicago dentist office for orthodontics for children

We are friendly and we love kids. That is step #1. As a parent, this is something you will want to take into consideration because having a child excited about and involved in their treatment is an excellent way to get started. We work with children on their level, explaining the process, helping them to understand what to expect, and showing them the valuable contribution they can make to the treatment process. Most kids will rise to the occasion and make the effort when given the chance. We view this as a team effort between the three of us, and working together, we can give them a beautiful smile in no time.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-45673924641851509862017-02-15T10:36:00.000-08:002017-11-22T10:39:08.005-08:00Do You Want BOTOX®? If there are aspects of your appearance that you wish to enhance, we can help as a dentist in Chicago. While most people do not think of visiting the dentist for BOTOX®, we offer this process as a stand-alone solution and as part of a full smile makeover. We understand that regardless of how much we improve a smile, an individual may still want to deal with the wrinkles on his or her face. Patients can have both their teeth and the skin around the smile improved at the same time. We make it so convenient to do both, you will wonder why you did not schedule the procedure sooner.

Teeth Whitening and BOTOX®

Our Chicago dental office often schedules an appointment for our patients to receive a teeth whitening treatment and BOTOX® during the same visit. Both solutions are fast, have a quick recovery time and can make a significant difference in one's appearance. Upon visiting our office for a teeth whitening, we will quickly examine the teeth to ensure that the patient does not have any oral health problems or damage that we need to address. If so, we will resolve those issues before proceeding. Otherwise, we can place the whitening solution onto the teeth and use it to remove the deep stains and discoloration. Our solution is significantly stronger than what an individual can buy in the store, and the results are dramatic. Since white teeth are a sign of youth and vitality, this procedure will turn back the clock and help patients look years younger. This is why BOTOX® is such a natural fit for this procedure. After we whiten the teeth, we can use BOTOX® to remove the fine lines and wrinkles on the patient's face.

Smile Makeovers and BOTOX®

If a patient wants a full smile makeover and is looking to close gaps between his or her teeth, make them whiter, change their shape or size, or even replace missing ones, we can help. Our comprehensive cosmetic services include dental bonding, dental veneers, dental crowns, dental bridges, dental implants, and more. To complete the process, we recommend using BOTOX®. This treatment is a simple step that can serve as the finishing touch to help you appear much younger and more refreshed. As a benefit, we can perform the procedure here, so you do not need to visit a second provider to complete your new look.

How BOTOX® Works

When you visit our dental office in Chicago, we can inject BOTOX® into your face, in between your eyebrows, around your mouth and more. It works by making it difficult for the muscles underneath your skin to contract and make wrinkles in the first place. By relaxing your muscles, your appearance will look youthful and beautiful.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-91257398330662526802017-01-03T11:18:00.000-08:002017-01-31T11:19:51.853-08:00The Many Benefits of Laser Dentistry
In our dental office, we use laser dentistry to improve the quality of care that we are able to provide our patients. We are passionate about oral health and about identifying ways to make our patients' experience better. Understanding that many adults suffer from dental anxiety, we are replacing traditional dental equipment with lasers.

How lasers will enhance your experience

The main reason that people are afraid of visiting the dentist is because of the noise, heat, vibration and smell that originates from the dental drill. While effective, the dental drill has created generations of anxious patients and if you are in this group, there is no need to fear the dentist office anymore.
We use lasers to replace the drill since they are quiet and eliminate both the heat and vibration that you would have felt in the past. Many of our patients are so pleased with how much better they feel, that they do not request sedation or pain relief during their treatment.

How lasers are improving dentistry
As a dentist, we enjoy using lasers because the laser energy is so fine that it allows us to target very specific and small areas without irritating any of the surrounding gum tissue. This is particularly helpful when treating a condition like gum disease. Gums can become inflamed and swollen when plaque and tartar become trapped on the teeth, underneath the gums. Typically, the best way to remove it is by using metal dental tools to break up the tartar and scrape it off.

While necessary, this can certainly be uncomfortable. Laser dentistry has revolutionized how we complete this procedure. We can use the laser to break up the tartar and plaque without needing to insert anything under your gums. You will have very little if any, irritation during or after the procedure while still gaining the benefits of a deep cleaning.

Laser dentistry also works for treating hard tissue. For example, we can use lasers to treat tooth decay without causing you discomfort. This is an improved method when compared to using a dental drill because we can target only the decayed portion of the tooth and the vibration and pressure that is felt with traditional dental tools does not apply when using a laser.

If we need to complete more invasive procedures like placing dental implants or removing a tooth, we can use lasers to help stop the bleeding. In fact, lasers can stimulate the healing process so that your gum tissue is less swollen or irritated. By using dental lasers throughout the procedure, you will require less gauze once complete and, in general, you will feel like yourself much faster.
As a dentist, patients ask us what is the best treatment for their jaw, face, or teeth that are constantly hurting. This is actually a fairly common problem, even though most people are unaware of what is causing the pain or how to treat it. While you can certainly go the normal route of taking ibuprofen or icing your face, you do not have to live like this on a regular basis. Having to take the occasional ibuprofen is fine, but if that has become your daily routine, you need to seek help.

Visiting our office is the first place to start because we can examine you and determine whether or not you have TMJ. Some of the signs we will look for are worn down teeth and popping noises when you open and close your jaw. We will also look to see how sore your jaw and face muscles are when you speak or touch them. If we feel that you do have TMJ, we will present you with treatment options.

What is a TMJ treatment?

We recommend a non-invasive treatment solution that works by addressing the source of your TMJ symptoms. Very often, grinding or clenching your teeth at night will cause soreness in the jaw or face. Most people who do so never realize that they are. Since it happens in your sleep without causing much noise, your partner may not notice you grinding your teeth either. The only thing you will notice is how you feel when you wake up the next day. If we feel that this is happening after examining and speaking with you, we will recommend that you wear a night guard to prevent your teeth from touching. Our treatment solution is that simple.

How a TMJ treatment works:

When you visit our Chicago dental office, we will make an impression of your mouth and take measurements. That information will be sent to the dental lab so they can create a night guard to your exact specifications. Over the course of a couple of weeks, your new oral appliance will be created. It will be designed to fit you perfectly and securely. This is important because it needs to remain in place as you sleep without becoming loose since that could cause you discomfort or alarm in your sleep. All you need to do is wear it every night when you go to bed. We have found that most of our patients wake up feeling much better and that the soreness they felt is all but eliminated. By wearing it for a couple of weeks, your soreness should go away entirely. The only exception to this is if there is an additional factor causing your TMJ symptoms.

This number increases to 98 percent with people who take good care of their teeth and by proxy, their dental implants. However, as with most things, there is always a slim chance for failure, and we do get questions about how this can happen. A failed implant is one that is loose, becomes mobile, falls out, or starts to show bone loss of more than one millimeter after the first year. In these cases, we want to make sure to identify and rectify the problem.
In most cases, dental implants are:

Incredibly durable

Long-lasting

Natural looking

Comfortable

Dental implants typically do not fail. There have been a few cases when the bone does not fuse fully with the dental implants, which can cause it to become loose or fall out. At other times, we have seen where the jawbone continues to disintegrate even after placing the implant, which leads to a failure of the dental implants. Careful monitoring of the dental implants is required. If we suspect that there may be cause for concern, we will measure the amount of bone loss over a period of one to two years.
If we start to see mobility in the implant or a bone loss of one millimeter after one year or 0.2 millimeters after the second year, we may start to discuss implant failure and what measures to take. It is important to note that if we find a low density of jawbone, to begin with, we will do a bone graft before ever considering placing dental implants, to ensure the bone can withstand the new implants.
With any oral surgery, and this is true for dental implants as well, there is always a risk of infection. When it comes to dental implants, we call this peri-implantitis, which is caused when there are bacteria present during the placing of the dental implants. The infection can lead to inflammation of the gum and bone and is a relatively common complication. In a few cases, we can treat this condition with antibiotics. However, we also find that in most cases, we will have to remove implant to cure the peri-implantitis.
The following can increase your risk of developing a complication:

Smoking

Poor oral hygiene

Being diabetic

Another potential complication is when dental implants are placed into the upper row of the teeth. As a seasoned professional in placing dental implants, we know to be extra careful that the dental implants do not protrude into the sinus cavity. When this happens, the area can become infected and inflamed. Typically, if we discover that there is a potential for this condition to happen, we will perform a sinus augmentation to create more bone in the area, which will provide better support of the dental implants. Our Chicago dental office always likes to know if you have had sinus issues before the dental implants are placed.
Having a stunning and beautiful smile is at the top of most people's wish list. People who wish for a beautiful smile more than anything else is understandable, considering that surveys of both men and women place a beautiful smile at the top of what makes a person attractive. There have even been studies showing that those with a beautiful smile are more likely to get ahead at work with promotions and even raises over those without a nice smile. Investing in yours can, therefore, be a lucrative endeavor.

If you have gaps between your teeth or you have teeth that are slightly crooked, you may be tempted to get braces. Orthodontics has an excellent reputation for straightening teeth because they work incredibly well. Whether you are 10 or 50 years of age, braces can help give you a beautiful smile. There is only one problem: they take a long time to work. It is common to wear braces for 18 months to two years. As an adult, this may not be the time you want to devote to your smile. Additionally, once the braces come off, you may still have stained teeth that will need to be whitened.

A different, and sometimes better option is to have a dentist place dental veneers. Veneers are thin porcelain shells created in a shade of white to match your surrounding teeth, or brighter in order to whiten your smile. They are bonded to the surface of your teeth after those teeth have been prepared. In this way, they essentially replace your enamel, so the only thing you see are the beautifully shaped veneers. Natural-looking yet perfectly beautiful, veneers can give you the smile you have always wanted in only two appointments. This is far faster and more convenient than braces.

Dental veneers can close gaps in between your teeth by making the veneers slightly wider than your natural teeth. With the smallest of adjustments, dental veneers can solve spacing problems beautifully.

Dental veneers can also straighten teeth by shaving off a portion of the enamel and then securing the veneer in such a way as to give your tooth the appearance of being straight. A dental veneer can straighten a tooth, without having to move it or the root.

Dental veneers can change the shape or size of your teeth if they are too large, too small, or unsymmetrical. We can also give your teeth a bright white appearance by covering your stained and yellow teeth with dental veneers. When you smile, you will see brilliance instead of years of coffee-induced stains.

Dental veneers are incredibly versatile and affordable when compared with an orthodontics treatment. We can discuss all the things you do not like about your smile during a consultation and then let you know how dental veneers can work to correct those challenges. The nice thing about veneers is that you can start the process by having them placed on the most obvious front teeth and then continue to make any other adjustments over time. You can also combine this treatment with teeth whitening or even dental bonding. Our goal is to give you a smile you are proud of, so our Chicago dental office will present you with whatever options are necessary to achieve that objective.
In fact, snoring is one of the most common and well-documented symptoms of sleep apnea. When a person has chronic and ongoing snoring problems, there is always a chance that they are also suffering from sleep apnea.

Now, it is not to say that snoring and sleep apnea are synonymous; many people suffer from bad snoring habits and never develop sleep apnea. However, in the diagnosis of sleep apnea, chronic snoring is one of the symptoms we always look for. When a person with sleep apnea has chronic snoring, we find that snoring is often intermittent with pauses, which will sometimes end in choking or gasping. These are additional signs that point to sleep apnea.

The challenge is that the patient is often asleep when these events occur. Nobody can truly be sure that they snore at night or whenever they fall asleep, simply because they are usually in too deep of a restive state to be disturbed by their own sound. Similarly, when a person suffering from sleep apnea chokes or gasps at the end of a pause during their snoring, they may have no idea that this is happening to them.

In cases like this, we have to rely on a family member or a partner to identify that these symptoms are occurring and to note how frequently. Since snoring can be completely independent of sleep apnea, it can be challenging to positively identify it, which is why we look for other symptoms as well.
Other common symptoms that go along with snoring and sleep apnea includes fatigue during the day. Many of the patients who suffer from sleep apnea find that they are unable to get enough sleep and that they feel sleepy throughout the day, periodically nodding off. People with sleep apnea may rapidly fall asleep during the daytime, as well. When combined with chronic snoring, this can be a clear symptom of sleep apnea.

Despite snoring and sleep apnea having such a distinctive relationship, we still always look for other signs and recommend that any patient who is having trouble breathing during sleep consult with their doctor about possible sleep apnea treatments.

If you have other symptoms like falling asleep during the day, headaches, problems with remembering or learning things, irritability and depression, trouble focusing or concentrating, or dry mouth and a sore throat, you definitely need to consult with your doctor about sleep apnea. In children, this condition can possibly manifest itself as irritability, inability to do well in school, and hyperactivity during the day. Additionally, children who suffer from sleep apnea may have a habit of breathing through their mouth, even during the day time.

While a few of the symptoms of sleep apnea are often dismissed as coincidental, such as snoring, it is important to seek treatment if the other symptoms occur.
When you are planning for healthcare, be sure to add an emergency dentist for kids in Chicago to your list. Having children brings about many changes. The need to find a pediatrician, daycare providers, and a children’s dentist. As a dentist, we know many parents are confused about when and if they actually need to take their kids to the dentist. If you are a first-time parent, the confusion is completely understandable – there is a great deal to learn! Just know that you definitely do need a dentist for your child, you should bring them in around one year of age, and you need a dentist you can call in emergencies.

Why do I need an emergency dentist for kids?

It’s simple, really. Children are accident-prone. Whether your teething toddler falls down while learning to walk and bumps their front tooth, your preschooler hits their teeth on the playground or your older child has a sports accident, the bottom line is that accidents happen. There is no way to control when they will, nor is there a good way to avoid them. The best you can do is to keep your children's teeth healthy and strong, hoping that they will be able to withstand the impact. If they cannot, if they break, crack, or chip, you need a dentist you can call right away. In these situations, we are here to help.

What does an emergency dentist for kids do?

We do it all. Our dental office in Chicago is a traditional pediatric dentistry office that provides preventative and restorative dental care. That means we can clean their teeth, treat decay, and restore damaged teeth. The difference between our office and the typical dentist is that we also provide emergency care. We understand that just like you cannot prevent accidents, you cannot tell when they will happen. For this reason, we offer appointments outside of the standard nine to five, and we always leave room in our schedule for emergencies. That way, when your child needs help, they can get it without the need to wait for a week or two to come in.

Will my insurance cover an emergency dentist for kids?

That depends on your dental insurance. However, since we are a pediatric dentistry office, we do work with most insurance providers. We do not offer emergency care only, but rather, we offer all types of dental care. This means the procedures your children need should be covered as long as you have a comprehensive dental plan. If you do not and you want to discuss other payment arrangements, let us know so we can help find solutions for you.

Shouldn’t I just take my kids to the ER?

No. If your child hurts their tooth, do not take them to the ER but call an emergency dentist for kids instead. ER doctors are highly trained, but they are not trained in dentistry. Your child will not receive the level of care they need from the ER.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com845 N Michigan Ave #922, Chicago, IL 60611, USA41.8980056 -87.62323549999996416.375971099999997 -128.93182949999996 67.4200401 -46.314641499999965tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-11976000174931897492016-06-01T08:51:00.000-07:002016-06-14T08:55:36.957-07:00Visit Mitchell Dental Spa for a Dental Cleaning and Examinations

When you visit Mitchell Dental Spa for a dental cleaning and examinations, we will take the time to get to know you and the concerns you have for your health and the appearance of your smile. We have a variety of dental solutions we can use to correct everything from a toothache to gum disease and a chipped tooth. Whether you are concerned that your gums may be receding or you do not like a gap in between your teeth, let us know. We will be happy to come up with a customized treatment plan to address these issues.

During your appointment, we will conduct a physical examination, along with taking x-rays, so we can see the condition of your tooth structure and jawbone. This will help us determine if you are suffering from resorption, need a root canal, or simply need to have your teeth cleaned. By cleaning your teeth twice a year, we can decrease your risk of getting cavities and help keep you healthy so you do not require any further dental care. Ongoing preventative care can help to make this possible, but it requires consistency on your part.

During a dental cleaning and examinations, Mitchell Dental Spa will also check the enamel on your teeth to look for signs of erosion. Your teeth only have a set amount of enamel. Over time, that enamel can wear away, exposing the porous dentin underneath. Your nerve endings are contained here, and without a protective layer of enamel, you can experience sensitivity and discomfort while eating or drinking. There are solutions like desensitizing toothpaste that can help, but this is only a temporary measure. If your enamel is eroded, the only way to permanently solve the problem is with a dental restoration. We can use dental bonding or a dental crown to help protect your tooth and reduce or eliminate the sensitivity. Keep in mind that you do not need to treat all of your teeth. If the enamel has worn away on only one or two, we can address those ones only, so no unnecessary dental work has to be done. As a benefit, any restoration we complete can be made to look natural and blend in with the surrounding teeth. That way, no one can tell which teeth were ever damaged or restored.

While performing a dental cleaning and examinations, Mitchell Dental Spa also look for signs of oral cancer. This is incredibly important because it is difficult to see the inside of your mouth, making early detection next to impossible without the help of a professional. We can look for signs such as red and white bumps or rough patches that could be indicative of cancerous cells. One person dies every day from oral cancer, and early detection is the key to defeating the disease. With that in mind, if you smoke, chew tobacco, drink a lot of alcohol, are exposed to a lot of sun, or have the HPV virus, you need to have an oral cancer screening once per year. Fortunately, we can incorporate this into your dental exam, making it easy to do both at the same time.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com845 N Michigan Ave #922, Chicago, IL 60611, USA41.8980056 -87.62323549999996416.375971099999997 -128.93182949999996 67.4200401 -46.314641499999965tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-64620838048717037792016-05-16T11:25:00.000-07:002016-05-16T11:25:20.866-07:00If A Tooth Gets Knocked Out Follow These Tips From Our Dental Office

As a dental office we understand how important teeth are. Our digestive process begins with the act of chewing and so protecting our teeth is essential. In the modern world, our children are faced with new dangers and potential for losing or damaging their teeth. Chief among these are sports and recreational activities like climbing or skateboarding. Contact sports like football also can result in damage to a tooth or even the loss of a tooth due to a collision. In order to protect the teeth from inadvertently being knocked out, all athletes wear mouth guards that can help mitigate damage and reduce the impact. However, accidents still happen.

For a child to lose a tooth is a big deal, especially if the tooth that is lost is the permanent tooth. All people have two sets of teeth. The first, milk teeth which are also known as deciduous teeth, come in first as a baby and eventually fall out naturally to make room for the larger, more permanent teeth. Functionally the baby teeth are essential since a child learns how to chew and talk with these teeth. Also, they serve as a placeholder for the permanent teeth. In this role, they prevent other teeth from crowding the space required by the adult tooth so that it can grow smoothly and proportionately. As a result, when a milk tooth is knocked loose, we will take precautions to ensure that the gap, left by the tooth, is not filled or crowded by the surrounding teeth. This is necessary to prevent an irregular growth of the adult tooth.

If your child has a baby or milk tooth knocked out during a sport it is a good idea to visit our dental office as soon as possible to make a plan. This way we can start monitoring the other teeth until the new tooth has grown in. You can also bring the knocked out tooth with you, transporting it in milk.

On the other hand, if the tooth that has been displaced is a permanent tooth, the problem is more serious.

We advise taking the following steps –

Find the tooth and make sure it is clean. If it is clean put it back into the socket from which it fell and hold it in place. The tooth may be held in place using the opposing teeth, the tongue, or by wrapping it in a foil using the neighboring teeth as a support. If the tooth is obviously dirty, wash it before placing it in the mouth to avoid contamination.

Call our dental office to schedule an emergency exam. We can look at various options for restoring the tooth or if it is too far gone, replacing the tooth with another dental solution. Getting the tooth to the dentist quickly is essential, and it can, like the deciduous tooth, be transported in milk or even a saline solution. When handling the tooth make sure not to touch the root but instead pick it up and handle it using the crown to avoid damaging the root.
If you are looking for an implant dentist, we help patients transform their smiles, and this is one of the many procedures that we specialize in. An implant can transform a person’s smile by restoring missing teeth and giving them the full functionality that typically only comes from natural teeth. We asked our implant dentist to answer some commonly asked questions about implants and how to keep them in good condition.

Question: What is a dental implant?

Answer: There are actually two parts to an implant: a synthetic root system and a new tooth. The roots are made of a metal post, and the tooth is typically made of ceramic.

Question: What do they look like?

Answer: An implant looks like a natural tooth because it is created in a dental lab to match the surrounding teeth in shape and size. The color is also matched to the natural teeth so that it blends in perfectly.

Question: What can an implant dentist use them for?

Answer: Most of the time they are used to replace a tooth that has fallen out. This is an alternative to dentures or installing a dental bridge and looks more natural than both of those solutions. It is also more durable. At times, patients will ask for an implant to correct a crooked tooth that may not be responsive to orthodontics.

Question: How does the process work?

Answer: The main difference between an implant and any other type of procedure is the new root system that is created. In order to do this, I implant a metal post under the gums and secure it to the jawbone. The bone responds by eventually fusing with the metal. This step can take a few months, but once they are fused together, a synthetic root system exists that is as durable and strong as a natural one. Meanwhile, a new tooth is being created in the lab using an impression that was taken of a patient’s mouth. Once the first stage is complete, I secure the new tooth to the metal post at the surface of the gums and position it into place. The results look completely natural.

Question: How long will my implant last?

Answer: There is no set time frame and your dental implants can last a lifetime if you take care of your oral health.

Question: How do I keep them in good condition?

Answer: Dental implants are stain resistant and not prone to infection because they are made of ceramic and metal. The rest of the teeth in your mouth and gums are susceptible to becoming infected, so the focus needs to be on taking care of them. I recommend that patients brush after every meal and floss daily in order to remove bacteria and plaque. Teeth cleanings twice a year are also important for preventing infections and treating them right away if they do occur. The greatest risk to an implant is having an untreated oral infection spread into the jawbone. This can be prevented with regular teeth cleanings.
Learning how to do this the right way will help you to prevent cavities and gum disease from forming in your mouth. We understand the importance that preventative care plays in good oral health. We can do our part by cleaning your teeth twice a year and removing any plaque, tartar, and bacteria that was left behind from at home cleanings. While this is effective, it isn't enough without at home care as well.

Here is what you need to know about brushing your teeth.

The two-minute myth.
A lot of people have been taught that as long as they brush for at least two minutes, their teeth will be clean. This is only half of the story. The two-minute rule is a good starting point, but you really need to brush for as long as it takes to get a good clean. This may be longer if you have a bad toothbrush. Feel your teeth when you are done and see if they are clean. If you can still feel grime with your tongue then adjust your timing accordingly.

Motion matters.
When you brush your teeth, it is important to brush them in a circular pattern. This will help you to remove more bacteria and plaque without irritating your gums. If you have an electric toothbrush, it will do this for you so that you have less to worry about. This is far better than brushing from front to back or back to front which can irritate your gums. We can show you how to do this when you visit our dentist office.

It is also important for you to brush away from your gums. For example, if you are brushing your top teeth start at the gum line and brush downwards. This will keep bacteria off of your gums and help to prevent gum disease.

Buy the right equipment.
You should be brushing with a soft toothbrush or an electric one. Both are better for your teeth than a hard toothbrush because they won't strip away your enamel or irritate your gums. You also need to switch out your toothbrush every three months before the bristles start to fray. If you notice that your toothbrush has an odor, you should change it out faster since this could be a sign of bacteria.

Purchase toothpaste that contains fluoride so that you can strengthen your teeth while brushing them. Look for one that has the American Dental Association seal of approval on it and use this toothpaste several times a day for the maximum benefits.

When you visit our dentist office, we can demonstrate how to brush properly and care for your teeth so that you can stay healthy at home and prevent both cavities and gum disease. You should also schedule a teeth cleaning for twice a year so that we can remove any bacteria or plaque that has been left behind.

Cosmetic Dentist > Teeth WhiteningAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com845 N Michigan Ave #922, Chicago, IL 60611, USA41.8980056 -87.62323549999996416.375971099999997 -128.93182949999996 67.4200401 -46.314641499999965tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516093700877930675.post-91024145745785932002016-04-01T11:50:00.000-07:002016-04-19T11:54:25.888-07:00A Restorative Dentist Can Use Both Crowns and Veneers

A Restorative Dentist Can Use Both Crowns and Veneers

A restorative dentist can help you if your tooth has become damaged. Previously, when a person's tooth became cracked or chipped there were not many options for correcting it. Some people even had their tooth pulled, which is now unnecessary most of the time thanks to modern dental techniques. By visiting the dentist immediately after teeth have been damaged, most teeth can be restored and saved.

Dental crowns and veneers are two ways that a dentist will restore the tooth. They can be used to correct teeth that have been chipped or cracked. Additionally, a veneer is often used to cover dark stains, close gaps in teeth, and make them even. Crowns are more frequently used to restore a tooth after a large portion of it has been removed during a procedure like a root canal. Both options provide patients with a way to improve the appearance and strength of a damaged tooth and allow for a person to eat normally once their tooth has healed.

While there are many similarities between the two procedures, there are also many differences. Here is what you need to know.

How they are used. Dental veneers are used more often to restore a tooth with minor damage while the majority of the tooth is still in place. This can include teeth with small holes in them, chips, or cracks. Meanwhile, dental crowns are needed when a larger portion of the tooth is missing, or the crack is so large that the tooth is falling apart. A restorative dentist will use a crown when the damage is more extensive.

What they look like. A dental veneer is made of all-porcelain or ceramic so that it looks completely natural. This is an excellent solution for someone who may be repairing one tooth but also wants to cover stains on other ones at the same time. They can be placed on one or all of a person's teeth. Dental crowns are made of several materials and a patient can select which one to use. All-metal crowns are more common for back molars since it is the most durable and will last the longest. All-porcelain and porcelain-on-metal are also common and more frequently used on teeth that people can see. The only challenge is that they don't last as long.

Tooth preparation. In both scenarios, a restorative dentist will prepare the tooth by removing a portion of the enamel so that the crown or veneer can fit and feel natural. More of the enamel is removed with a crown than with a veneer since the crown surrounds a tooth where the veneer simply sits on top. Temporaries are worn after the tooth is prepared while the lab is creating a permanent solution.

Placing a crown or veneer. Once the permanent ones are ready, the temporary will be removed and if the permanent crown or veneer lfits perfectly it will be bonded to the tooth.

Both solutions can look natural and feel great and allow the patient to eat like normal and speak comfortably. A restorative dentist will make recommendations on what needs to be done after examining a damaged tooth.

TMJ Dentist Chicago > Dental BondingAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01182353962738526481noreply@blogger.com845 N Michigan Ave #922, Chicago, IL 60611, USA41.8980056 -87.62323549999996416.375971099999997 -128.93182949999996 67.4200401 -46.314641499999965
